Ride 29 – Mid Autumn Holiday Banger

Mid Autumn Festival, Mid Autumn Festival, Mid Autumn Festival ! The weather is perfect and we’ve got 3 days off to enjoy it. We are offering 3 rides over the holiday.
Thursday  – evening night ride and overnight stay to Huairou (sign up separately here).
Friday – regular Serk ride (details and sign up below)
Saturday – Obentos Lunch ride. A free ride from Serk which finishes with an awesome lunch deal and talk by Obentos founder and Serk rider Andrew Stevenson (details here)
The Friday regular Serk Ride is in Huairou. We’ve chosen the middle day of the 3 day holiday as the traffic is more bearable. More bearable doesn’t mean good so expect some delays getting to and from the ride.
For beginners its a 50km out and back course with a fair amount of climbing. If you’d like an easier ride you can cut it short by turning around earlier.
Intermediate have the classic DongBei Kou ride with 3 awesome climbs and descents – the best 75km of riding in Beijing we reckon !
Elite – the long and tortorous ride is back. 150 clicks with plenty of climbing !
Please note if you have a ride pass your unused rides will expire at the end of December. We have approximately 10 more Serk rides left for the year (no rides in the Oct holiday). We will ride all the way to the end of December if there is demand but it starts getting pretty cold from the second half of November so if you have lots of rides left start using them now !

Ride leader : TBC
Average Speed : 15 km/h – 20 km/h
This ride is recommended for all new beginner riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Intermediate Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.
2. Intermediate  – 76km 1588m Climbing

A nice route that follows the same course as Beginner but adds in an extra 10km climb up to Dong Bei Kou. A fair amount of climbing on the route so a good challenge for those looking to step it up. If its too much turn around and come back early. The ride finishes with a great descent to our retreat in the mountains. Welcome to hang around in the sun for a post ride beer or espresso.
Average Speed : 20 km/h – 25 km/h
Please note if you are a new rider you need to join a beginner ride for your first outing with Serk. Once you’ve smashed that you are welcome to move up to Intermediate or Elite ! This ride is recommended for all Intermediate riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Elite Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.
4. Elite – 146 km 2300m Climbing

A super awesome loop with 4 climbs and a nice flowing gradual descent for over 60km. Start at Tom’s place and ride clockwise over Tower Hill, Dongbei Kou, through Sihai and then loop back via Liulimiao. The ride finishes with a great descent to our retreat in the mountains. Welcome to hang around in the sun for a post ride beer or espresso.
Ride leader : TBC
Average Speed : 25 km/h – 30 km/h
This ride is recommended for Elite riders only. The pace will be pretty fast and on the flat parts of the course we will ride together as a bunch so the km pass quickly. If you are not sure of your fitness or endurance then please do not join this group. Instead go with the intermediate group and as your fitness improves later in the season join the Elite ride group.
