Bike Mechanic Course at Serk


Looking to take your bike skills to the next level ?

Maintaining your own bike is a very satisfying experience. The only thing more satisfying is riding it when everything is just sweet. Gears change with precision, brakes are dialed in, hubs are greased up and rims are running true – two wheeled bliss !

With some training, practice and home mechanic tools pretty much anyone can work on a bike !
To help you get there Serk’s mechanic Jeff Trinh holds regular training coursea for bike repair.


Dates :


Deep Dive Course –

4 Classes
Sunday mornings 11.00am – 1.00 pm
Week 1 : December 1st 2013
Week 2 : December 8th 2013
Week 3 : December 15th 2013
Remedial Class : Jan 2014 (date decided upon depending on groups availability)

Dates & Agenda
Week 1: Basic Installs (stem, bars, pedals, wheels, chains and cassettes)
Week 2: Install and Adjustments (brake & derailleurs)
Week 3: Installs and Adjustments continued (cabling brakes & derailleurs)

(Remedial Class dates tbd: covers any topic, for those who may miss a course or two)


Course contents :



  • Shifting adjustments
  • Brake adjustments
  • Basic installs and safety check
  • Cleaning and lubrication basics
  • Simple troubleshooting and flat repair
  • Intro to wheel truing
  • Derailleur installation
  • Derailleur cable and housing installation
  • Brake installation
  • Brake cable and housing installation
  • Fork installation
  • Bearing adjustment for headset, hubs, and bottom brackets
  • Wheel truing basics
  • Chain and cassette installation


Deep-dive course also includes 2 hours access to the serk bike workshop each month for the 12 months following the course.


Deep Dive – RMB 1500. Alternatively you can take the deep dive course as individual lessons. Each 2 hour lesson is RMB 550.
