A day out cycling in Beijing’s mountains is the perfect antidote to our busy city lives. Only one and half hour’s drive from the city are stunning mountains, fresh air and quiet roads which provide a world class environment for cycling.

Serk have a base in Huairou with modern facilities and a relaxing vibe which serves as the base for cyclists for the day. With 3 riding distances the event caters for all – from the first timer to experienced riders. Perhaps you have a non cycling partner or a family – bring them along too for a spot of hiking, wall sightseeing and lungfuls of fresh mountain air.

After the ride Serk provide a delicious and nutritious lunch to satisfy your post ride hunger. In the afternoon relax in the courtyard with a few beers and some chilled music or stroll around the village enjoying the fresh air.  You can even have a shower and be refreshed for the trip back to the city.

Places are limited for each trip so hurry !

1. Easy.12km. 1 hour riding

Dust off your city bike or hire a nice bike from SERK for this dead easy route. We will transport you and your bike up the hill to the plateau and our guide will lead you in the right direction. Its on a quiet and flat road which winds through a few villages and farmers fields. In the whole 12km journey you will usually see only a handful of cars at most so this route is great for beginners. Check out the route here.

. . If you’d like an extra challenge you can ride all the way back to the village – this involves a short uphill section followed by a long long windy descent thats sure to bring a smile to any cyclists face. Its an extra 10km but almost all downhill. Just make sure you brakes are working well.

2. Moderate. 27km. 2 hours of riding

Ride over some challenging hills. Take your time, soak up the views and enjoy the fast downhills.  The road twists and turns and becomes less busy the further along the road you travel. By the time you hit the final bends you’ll be able to smell the meat sizzling away on the BBQ !

Check the route out here.

Geared bikes required for this ride. Road or Mountain bikes are suitable – bike hire available from serk.

Detailed instructions ;

From the start point follow the X004 North all the way to Wu Dao He Village. After 20km you will summit the first climb and descend back down into another valley. The road then slowly slopes up towards Wu Dao He. Keep an eye out for the Jinbei vans on the side of the road. You will see them as you enter the village.

3. Challenging. 74 km / 100km. 3.5 hours of riding

This is the challenging route. Expect to do some serious climbing over a few different passes. The course will be a point to point course which you can extent to 100 or more kilometers if you ride at a decent pace.  You’ll be one of the last ones back to the house but don’t worry we’ll keep a cold beer or 3 ready for you – you’ll deserve a beer after that effort. Check the route out here.

Detailed instructions (thanks to the Peloton) ;

From the start at the intersection, follow the main road G111 east and start the climb > always stay on the “old road” and not on the new road that becomes a tunnel. Summit the old pass and descend > @ 38km the road forks into a Y-junction. Keep left and turn left again after 500m unto the S323 > @ 56 km you hit a new Y-junction > go left again towards Huairou. Watch the traffic signs above you! Follow this road all the way to Wu Dao He Village. Look out for the Jinbei vans parked on the side of the road after you pass a bridge and then turn to the left. To extent the route you can climb up the Dong Bei Kou climb. To do this turn right at the Y-junction at 56km. Keep going to the top of the climb and descent down again. This will add about 25km.
