Nov 26th – FYA Ride 1

FYA Ride ? You guessed it. Freeze Your Arse Off Ride 1. Yes winter is very much here and its brutal outside. But damn it that will not stop us riding our bikes ! This weeks route is shorter and with a bunch of optional climbs to give us some flexibility. In case someone’s limbs drop off from the cold its not far back to the vans. The ride starts in the Park which we often frequent not far from Huairou. The loop should be familiar. The optional climb 1 is up a quiet dead end road. Its not too steep and wont be too cold on the way down. The 2nd optional climb is up to the mutianyu...

Ride 33 – Back to Bohai

The World’s are over but the rides keep coming ! Come and see Paul and Jen on their first Serk ride in their freshly minted World Champion jerseys – if you are lucky you can catch a signature from either of them. Saturday’s ride will be a familiar one – The Bohai / Mutianyu loop. Its a great course, not too heavy on the climbing and close to Beijing so it means an early return ! It’s getting cold out there so we recommend that you all have at least arm and leg warmers and full finger gloves. A few riders were caught out last week and were very very cold on the...

Ride 32 – The Beijing Stelvio

Summer has definitely left the building. Damn now we are on the countdown to winter – how did we end up there again ? To pep things up a bit this week we are going to ride the famous Beijing Stelvio climb. Its quite a distance away (2 hours each way) to the West of the city but as always worth the trip. The loops we have planned are gorgeous and now that summer is finished should be reasonably traffic free. This ride is a must – so don’t miss it. Everyone will start in Shidu and we all ride up Hong Jing Lu (The Beijing Stelvio). Beginners will ride to the top and then come...

Ride 31 – Sihai Short Trip

It’s the Golden Week in Beijing and that usually means sunny clear days. Yay !  Half of the city is away on holidays (including most of the Serk crew who are in Sichuan with 9 riders) so it won’t be a big ride this week. To avoid the bad traffic the ride has been moved to Thursday 6th of October. Liman and Shannon are out of town so the ride will be lead by Josh. Its a quick drive out to Ming Tombs and a visit to the famous Sihai climb. Elite will do a clockwise loop and descend it (after plenty of climbing before hand). Intermediate do an out and back up the big climb and...

Ride FAQ

Posted | Comments Off on Ride FAQ

1. Why should I join ? Beijing is home to some fine cycling terrain. On the outskirts of the city are kilometres of awesome roads. The air is better out there too. Get out of the chaos of the city, calm the mind, exercise,  and breath in some fresh air. Did we mention you’ll meet a ton of cool people as well. Cyclists are a friendly bunch and always welcoming. 2. What sort of bike do I need ? You need a road bike with gears. We will be climbing hills so fixies and your regular city bike wont cut it. No mountain bikes either as these don’t fit easily together with road bikes in...
