Ride the Great Wall

cycling_escape-4

No visit to Beijing is complete without seeing the wondrous Great Wall of China. And while you’re at it you might as well squeeze in a ride too, right ?

We’ve designed a unique experience for the travelling cyclist to combine both and have you back at your Hotel by lunch – your hosts won’t even know you’ve left.

We pick you up nice and early to escape the early morning traffic chaos and drive to the start point on a quiet back road. The route rolls through small villages for the first 20 km before turning to the east where you’ll glimpse the wall as its snakes its way up and down the mountains in the distance. A little further down the road we will rest our bikes against the Wall, swap cycling shoes for something more comfortable and embark on a quick journey up the steps of the Great Wall. Bring your camera as there are plenty of opportunities for photos that will look great on your Strava feed for the day.

Cycling shoes go back on and we tackle a meandering climb for 4.5 km followed by a flowing descent into the Bohai valley. As we pass through more rural villages you’ll get a real sense of the difference in pace and income levels between rural and urban China.

If time permits and you’re up for another challenge you can climb up the road to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall for a few more selfies after you’ve caught your breath. It’s all down here from here back to the van where we finish off with a coffee and compare photos from the morning. Within 80 minutes we’ll have you back in the city with a smile on your face and the Great Wall conquered.
