Lecture at the Danish Embassy

Join Smarter Than Car founders Liman Zhao and Shannon Bufton (and co-researcher Florian Lorenz) for a lecture at the Danish Embassy on Wednesday May 29th at 7.30 pm.

BEIJING IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE BICYCLE
Observations of urban systems during Peak Bicycle Urbanism.
Lessons for pedal-powered future cities.

Registration is required for the event.
Please fill in the form below by Wednesday 29th May 11am.

The Lecture will be a warm up for the podium lecture which Liman has been invited to present at Velocity Vienna in early June. Liman is the only invited speaker from Asia and 1 of 10 women. Come out and listen to her talk about her observations of growing up in the Golden Age of the bicycle. Shannon and Florian extrapolate on these observations of peak ‘bicycle urbanism’ to pose some questions, theories and lessons which could be relevant for pedal-powered cities all around the world.

Over the past 3 years Liman, Shannon and Florian Lorenz have been researching Beijing’s bicycle cutlures and presenting the findings around the world. They have presented at the World Congress of Architects, Tongji University, ETH Zurich, Zagreb and were featured in the World Cycling Atlas in 2012.

The lecture is presented in association with the Danish Embassy. The Danish Embassy are leaders in raising awareness of modern urban lifestyle, green transportation and climate issues in Beijing. For the past 2 years they have organized the ‘Climate Race’ to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transportation. The Danish Embassy have also donated funds to STC in the past which has enabled us to present research work in other parts of the world.

Registration is required for the event. Please fill in the form below by Monday 27th May 5pm.
If you do not register you will not be able to get through the embassy security.
