The year began on the Chinese border with Myanmar, where our New Year trip rolled through five days of warm weather, bamboo river crossings, and endless plates of incredible local food. It was the perfect way to start the year — a gentle re-entry into the saddle after winter.

By spring, we were back in our spiritual home — Tibet — for the first of five trips to the roof of the world. A private group kicked off the season, followed by a lively crew of riders mostly from Shanghai. A late spring snowfall on the final day into Everest Base Camp turned the ride into a test of endurance — and delivered some truly iconic photos.

In July, we returned to Gannan, Gansu for another off-the-beaten-track gravel adventure. It had been a few years since our last expedition there, and although some of the classic dirt sections had sadly been paved, we scouted and rode brand-new unridden gravel routes. This trip quickly became one of our favourites of the year — pure frontier spirit with that satisfying mix of remoteness and discovery.

Soon after came our summer Everest trip, joined by an awesome group of seasoned riders, many from the Seattle Randonneurs community. This time, a few partners joined using our e-assist bikes — their first taste of high-altitude adventure riding.
It was a great success: the climbs, the thin air, and the sweeping Himalayan views could all be savoured without the strain.

Autumn brought two back-to-back Everest trips, including a special edition in partnership with Everesting. A powerhouse group of riders came together to push limits and pioneer new territory — literally. We explored a challenging new route featuring recently opened roads and tougher climbs. The payoff? Spectacular terrain and scenery we hadn’t yet experienced. Thanks to this discovery, our 2026 itineraries will evolve to incorporate this exciting new route.

Beijing is one of Asia's best kept cycling secrets. Mountains on three sides of the city trap Beijing's notorious air, but drive over the first mountain range and cycling heaven awaits—so too does better air and blue skies. Out here, high above the city, lies thousands of kilometres of quiet, snaking mountain roads to rival the best cycling destinations in the world.

We've been riding these roads for 10 years and this 5-day, hotel-to-hotel trip explores the best Beijing has to offer. Expect stunning scenery, big climbs, adventurous back roads and of course, coffee stops and some great local restaurants.

Day 1.

Beijing City

We'll pick you up from the airport and transport you directly to the hotel. Unpack, assemble bikes and grab a coffee before heading out into the city for some urban riding on some of the flattest roads of the city to freshen the legs up.

Today's ride is a short one, but you'll be able to experience the beautiful nightscape of Beijing.

Day 2.

Baihe Valley Ride

Today's route takes in some of the most beautiful geography Beijing has to offer. We'll ride up through the spectacular Baihe Valley, known among local Beijing riders as the "100km natural art gallery" for its incredible views. We'll follow a perfect, smooth and virtually carless road that snakes its way up the white cliffs lining the valley, before finishing off in Huairou.

Day 3.

Great Wall Ride

Today's roads were raced each year during the UCI Tour of Beijing. We will tackle one of Beijing's biggest climbs - the mighty Sihai mountain. We'll stop mid-ride for lunch and a walk on the Great Wall. Don't forget your camera.

Day 4.

Back Roads & Ming Tombs Ride

Today is adventure day. We take you through a maze of tiny back roads and long forgotten climbs. Cars don't travel here much, but plenty of riders do. See if you can match Beijing's best climbers on the short climbs we tackle today. We finish off with a celebratory dinner in Changping before heading back to the city for the hotel.

Day 5.

Beijing City - Airport

Depending on your flight schedule and hangover from the previous night's drinks, you might be able to squeeze one last early morning ride in before packing up. The drive back to the airport is around 90 minutes.

FAQ

Can I alter the itinerary ?

Yes - it can be shortened by day or you can add a day or more on. There is plenty of cycling terrain in the area for you to explore. We promise you wont get bored.

Can distances be altered ?

Yes - for most of the routes shorter options are possible.

What sort of support do you provide ?

We provide a vehicle for transporting riders and bikes. The vehicle will follow the riders and provide support during the ride. The van is equipped with tools, spare parts, snack foods and drinks to keep you on the road.

Road Conditions ?

Around 80% of the roads we've chosen are tarmac and around half of them have been built or resurfaced in the past 5 years. The tarmac is mostly smooth and well built. Some of the more interesting routes through small villages are on concrete roads which are also well built but can be narrow. And the best part - there are hardly any cars in the area so you'll be enjoying the sound of nature and your bike on most roads.

The Serk Nearly World Road Championships are back!

Despite your weight, age, or the lack of exoticness of your bike you can still dream of glory in this event. We’ve evened out the competition with some special non-UCI rules to ensure that everyone has a fighting chance to win. Expect a bonus head start of half an hour or more if you are over 50 and a little on the heavy side. If you are married with children you’ll also get a some bonus minutes. Now all of a sudden the rainbow jersey is well within reach for everyone…

For the serious riders, you’ll have your chance at glory- the event is timed and trophies awarded for the fastest female and males times too!

The event will take place around Changping, Beijing, on SUNDAY 12th October.

Race Format

The Nearly Worlds is designed as one-day cycling party. The race is limited to 120 participants. It's a unique and super fun format.

Race Format

The race is run as a ‘handicap race’. This style of racing is popular in Australia and helps give everyone a chance to win. All the starters are given a handicap (bonus head start time).

The handicap is based on the following factors :

Age
Weight
Sex
Number of young kids you have
Shittiness of your bike
How many bribes are paid (chocolate and alcohol seem to work best)

We have a complicated spreadsheet to work all this out. The older you are the more bonus seconds you receive. Have a few kids and a heavy bike? Lots more bonus seconds. This is the race where the best training might actually be drinking beer and eating hamburgers. Or is it?

We split the field in to around 10 groups. Those with the most handicap (usually the oldest riders) start first, and the ones with the least handicap start last (usually the youngest). There will be approximately 8 groups that start in-between at varying intervals (depending on age/ weight and other factors above). Everyone races on the same course and during the race riders from behind you on the course will most likely catch you up and bigger groups will form. The winner is the first person across the finish line.

We are combining the Womens and Mens and races into one. Based on the time differentials between mens and womens cycling world records we will give all women in the race a head start compared to men of the same age.

There will also be a prize for the ‘fastest time’ awarded to the female and male rider that completes the course in the shortest period of time.

And a team prize for the highest ranked country. So get your team together and start strategising and maybe do a bit of training - either on the road or at the bar...

The Overnight Stay

The starting point is only 50km from Beijng's 2nd ring road. It's very close. The start and finish point is the Serk Silver Mountain house close to the Silver Pagodas. There are lots of accomodation options around here which we will share in the group chat for the event. Make a weekend of it and come up with the family on Saturday for hike to the Silver Pagodas and then race and on Sunday, back late Sunday afternoon.

How do the handicaps work ?

Bonus seconds will be awarded for :

A. Age.

We’ve closely scrutinised World Records in the Elite and Masters Categories and Strava age categories and come up with a scientific formula to correct your finishing time based on your age. The older you are the more bonus seconds you get.

B. Sex

We've also looked at the differences in world record times between male and female elite riders and have data from our previous Nearly Worlds. We've worked out a formula to equalise the men and women in the race.

C. Kids

No time for training, no money to spend on the bike? Now is your time to use the kids and lack of training to your advantage. You’ll get bonus points for each child under 10 or any child under 18.

D. Shit bike compensation

Every kg of extra weight on the bike slows you down on climbs – we’ve heard this excuse many a time. Now you’ll finally be compensated for that shit bike and be able to climb up the leaderboard where you should have always been. We’ve worked out average bike weights and how much weight will slow you down on the climbs on the course.

E. BMI over 25

Carrying a bit of extra weight on the body as well? Naturally, bonus seconds for you too.

FLIP CHIP

Flip chips on a gravel fork give riders real flexibility, letting one bike handle different riding styles and scenarios. Party mode (47mm) provides a higher trail for more stability and Business (52mm) lower trail for more reactive handling.
