Serk Ride no. 31 – Oct 15th – Miyun Baihe Valley

Ahh the BaiHe valley – its a stunner !
We’ll ride the magic 310 road which is carved out of the cliffs above the Baihe river. If there was one road in Beijing that is an absolute must ride this road is it. It twists and turns and travels up and down, through tunnels (bring lights !) with majestic views down into the valley.  Don’t miss this one.
PLEASE NOTE EARLIER DEPARTURE TIME – the drive is an extra 30 mins so we will leave at 6.30 sharp.

Departure Time : 06.30 Serk.  Arrive at 06.15 am to load bikes
Return Time : 14:30 – 16:00 Serk
1. Beginner – 56km 750m Climbing
An out and back route makes it suitable for all levels of beginner – you can turn back once your legs are tired. And they will be as there are constant leg sapping little climbs. The views are so awesome that you’ll want to go around every bend to see whats revealed next – remember pain is temporary !
Ride leader : Liman
Average Speed : 15 km/h – 20 km/h
This ride is recommended for all new beginner riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Intermediate Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

2. Intermediate : 85km 1250m Climbing
Follows the same route as the Beginner ride but adds on an extra route through a cool little back road. You eventually descend all the way down to the Baihe river and cross over it before finding your way to the G111 and following it all the way back.
Ride leader : TBC
Average Speed : 20 km/h – 25 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Intermediate riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Elite Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

3. Elite – 131km  1560m Climbing
Another long ride but a good one. Perfect roads and very scenic. We head far north and leave Beijing for some km’s. The roads out there are super quiet and picturesque as always. The hard part will be the awesome narrow road climb in the last 10km !
Ride leader : Shannon
Average Speed : 25 km/h – 30 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Elite riders only. The pace will be pretty fast and on the flat parts of the course we will ride together as a bunch so the km pass quickly. The group will wait at the top of the climbs and regroup for the descents. If you are not sure of your fitness or endurance then please do not join this group. Instead go with the intermediate group and as your fitness improves later in the season join the Elite ride group.
