Jiuhua mountain is one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism noted for old pines, green bamboo forests, strange rocks, waterfalls, streams and caves.

Taiping Lake is flanked by forest and tree plantations offering a huge diversity of cycling terrain – from narrow riverside roads to long switchback climbs.

The area is also rich in culture, history and traditional architecture -rolling through the landscape on a bicycle is pure delight.

Day 1.

Taiping Lake

Arrive Nanjing AM.
Airport pick and transfer to Taiping Lake (3.5 hours)
Arrive Crowne Plaza Taiping Lake 5 star

After you've settled into your room and unpacked your bike join us on the deck overlooking the mystical Taiping Lake for your trip brief. This afternoon we'll enjoy a short 50km loop on the back roads around the Hotel and along the Qingxi river. Expect lots of grey and balmy weather and busy tea farmers roasting this years tea leaves.

Day 2.

yixian

Today we will spend most of the day riding alongside the Qingxi River. Rolling hills, tea farms and bamboo forests are on the menu. We finish up in the traditional Yixian Old Town. In the afternoon you can visit the World Heritage village Hongcun and Xidi which are a few kms down the road.

Each day Serk sent us off on an adventure through the hills with just the right mix of scenery, sweat and discovery on those tiny twisty backroads.

Day 3.

JIUHUA

The Queen Stage. We ride around the back side of the mighty Jiuhua Mountain and back around Taiping Lake returning to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. 6 major climbs on offer and 150km of curving undulating road ensures that there will never be a dull moment on this outing !

Day 4.

Taohua tan

From the Hotel we head in an Easterly direction around the lake towards another cobble stoned historic town called Taohua Tan. We'll stop here for lunch before taking on a few more hills on the way back. The roads are all new in this area and the views stunning. If you still have energy there are a few optional climbs on the return leg to ensure you've used up every last opportunity to exhaust yourself. Time for high fives and celebratory drinks back at the hotel before departure the following morning.

Day 5.

Nanjing

Depending on your flight schedule and hang over from last nights drinks you might be able to squeeze one last early morning ride in before packing up. The drive back to Nanjing airport or train station is 3.5 hours.
