Ride April 16th – Return to Ming Tombs

This Saturdays ride takes us back to the Ming Tombs area – its close to Beijing so we should be back at a reasonable hour !
The Intermediate and Elite rides have a few nice back road surprises  (some of which are concrete) and the usual gut busting climbs.
Beginner and Intermediate groups (including self drive) will meet at the Ming Tombs carpark and then continue north in the vans to the starting point at the top of the first climb.  The Elites will ride a much bigger loop and conquer the long Sihai climb !
All riders are required to fill the form below (including self drive) by Friday morning.

1. Beginner – 37km 478m Climbing
The Beginner route for this week is a dream.  You will start with the Intermediate group, going down hill a bit before encountering the first of two uphill sections of the day.  After the first climb you will be going slightly down hill for the middle portion of your ride before coming to the base of the final uphill section.  The last climb is short, but a bit steeper than the first.  After reaching the top of the final climb its all downhill until the finish.
 Ride leader : Liman
Average Speed : 15 km/h – 20 km/h
This ride is recommended for all new beginner riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Intermediate Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

2. Intermediate : 81km 1116m Climbing
The Intermediate ride will begin with a nice down hill section before encountering the first of the three climbs of the day.  After the first climb you will descend slightly and explore some new roads including some concrete sections on the fairly flat middle portion of your ride.  The last section of the ride includes two short climbs before the final descent back to the Ming Tombs Carpark where everyone will finish their day.  A bit more downhill than up for this weeks intermediate route!
Ride leader : Morten
Average Speed : 20 km/h – 25 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Intermediate riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Elite Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

3. Elite – 128km  1930m Climbing
The Elite Ride will start and finish at the Ming Tombs Carpark.  This weeks ride adds a few more kilometers with a good amount of climbing as well.  The ride will have you on a short climb just after the start to get the heart pumping for the major climb of the day which begins around the 20k mark.  The big climb continues upward for over 15K so you will have to pace yourself in the beginning to keep from blowing up on the way to the top of this endless beast.  After the big one we will descend a bit and explore some new roads with a few sections of concrete along the way.  The last section of the ride includes two short climbs before the final descent back to where it all started.
Ride leader : Shannon
Average Speed : 25 km/h – 30 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Elite riders only. The pace will be pretty fast and on the flat parts of the course we will ride together as a bunch so the km pass quickly. The group will wait at the top of the climbs and regroup for the descents. If you are not sure of your fitness or endurance then please do not join this group. Instead go with the intermediate group and as your fitness improves later in the season join the Elite ride group.
