Serk Ride 13 – May 28th – Jiudu River Coffee Shop Ride

Did someone say coffee ? Believe it or not there is now a cafe out in the mountains. The coffee standard still has a long way to go but its a good start. The ride will start and finish as this coffee shop by the Huaijiu River.
The 3 planned routes are new and of course filled with great roads and picturesque scenery. The Beginner route is quite a bit easier than last weeks climbing fest, Intermediate is very picturesque and takes in a bunch of nice back roads. The Elite has even more back roads.
Our tip – order the Americano, its quite drinkable !
All riders are required to fill the form below by Friday morning.

Waiver

Departure Time : 07.00 Serk.  Arrive at 06.45 am to load bikes
Return Time : 14:00 – 16:00 Serk
1. Beginner – 44km 750m Climbing Approx
An out and back route makes it suitable for all levels of beginner – you can turn back once your legs are tired. There is just one main climb which you will do twice (once from either side). Apart from that its reasonably flat. This is a good route to come on your first ride with Serk as its not too demanding.
Ride leader : Berwick / Morten
Average Speed : 15 km/h – 20 km/h
This ride is recommended for all new beginner riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Intermediate Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

2. Intermediate : 74km 1500m Climbing Approx.
Head in the opposite direction to the Beginners towards the Ming Tombs. Once past the Ming Tombs veer left along a nice back road. Eventually this turns into a steep concrete climb. It ends as you ride through an arch and onto nice new bitumen. The descent is also a little steep so take it easy. The next 25 or 30 kms are nice and flowing. At around 60km you turn left off the major road onto another small road – through a tunnel and then another little climb into a village. Its all down hill from the top where you can join other riders for a coffee !
Ride leader : Berwick / Morten
Average Speed : 20 km/h – 25 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Intermediate riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Elite Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.

3. Elite – 109km  1560m Climbing Approx
Head out on the same course as the Intermediate. At about 44km turn left and head towards Yongning for another climb. Soon after you start descending you’ll turn right onto a small back road. Follow along this road till you reach the end. Turn left and then right soon after onto a small concrete climb and then descend into the village where you will join the main road again. A pretty flat section now heading towards Sihai. Stop at the Service station for some refreshments and then up the false flat to the top of the Sihai climb. Its all fast downhill from here back to the coffee shop.
Ride leader : Shannon
Average Speed : 25 km/h – 30 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Elite riders only. The pace will be pretty fast and on the flat parts of the course we will ride together as a bunch so the km pass quickly. The group will wait at the top of the climbs and regroup for the descents. If you are not sure of your fitness or endurance then please do not join this group. Instead go with the intermediate group and as your fitness improves later in the season join the Elite ride group.
