Ride 25 – Miyun Magic

With the temperature dropping the magic cycling season in Beijing has begun ! We are have a bunch of awesome rides planned for late summer and autumn and this weeks Miyun ride will kick it off. We head to the Miyun Reservoir to discover some nice roads and climbs by the water.
Due to popular demand we’ve added in an Intermediate Plus ride again. The Beginner route is another easy one also !
At the bottom of the page check out the new interactive map of the 4 routes. It works best on a desktop and you will need VPN active to view it.
All riders are required to fill the form below (including self drive) by Friday morning.

Waiver

06.30 Serk.  Arrive at 06.15 am to load bikes and grab a coffee
Return Time : 12:30 – 14:00 Serk
1. Beginner – 40km 506m Climbing



An out and back route along the edge of the Reservoir. Super scenic and pretty easy rolling hills. If you get to the half way point and not ready to turn back yet you can keep going for a few more kilometres !
Ride leader : Liman
Average Speed : 15 km/h – 20 km/h
This ride is recommended for all new beginner riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Intermediate Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.
2. Intermediate – 72 km 968m Climbing

An out and back route counter clockwise around the lake. A serious of nice climbs there and back to keep you out of the saddle. On the way back you should meet up with the Intermediate Plus riders.

Average Speed : 20 km/h – 25 km/h
Please note if you are a new rider you need to join a beginner ride for your first outing with Serk. Once you’ve smashed that you are welcome to move up to Intermediate or Elite ! This ride is recommended for all Intermediate riders. If you find the pace too slow next week you can move to the Elite Group. Its much better to start out on the easier ride and then move up rather than start on the faster ride and find yourself getting dropped and left behind.
3. Intermediate PLUS – 98 km 1126m Climbing

A nice rolling loop. You will start out with the Elite riders but skip the big climb of the day. 90 plus km of rolling landscape with great views across the reservoir.

4. Elite – 120km  1555m Climbing

A repeat of the awesome new loop we rode way back in March.  A gradual climb from 65-80km with stunning views of the Great Wall followed by some great switchback descending and a series of punchy climbs in the last 20km that will have you crying for your Mum !

Average Speed : 25 km/h – 30 km/h
This ride is recommended for all Elite riders only. The pace will be pretty fast and on the flat parts of the course we will ride together as a bunch so the km pass quickly. If you are not sure of your fitness or endurance then please do not join this group. Instead go with the intermediate group and as your fitness improves later in the season join the Elite ride group.
Waiver
Every rider is required to read and accept this waiver by clicking on “yes” in the form above before participating in a Serk Ride.
Self Drive
The start and finish point is in Miyun. Please arrive by 7.45
Payment
If you have already signed up for a multi-ride pass you don’t need make any additional payment for this ride. If you haven’t you can sign up for a multi-ride pass here or just purchase a 1 ride pass for the day. Our vehicles have limited seats so preference first goes to multi-ride pass holders and then those that pre-pay the 1 ride pass.

Process
Once you have signed up for the ride we will add you to special group chat for the ride. Here you will be able to see which of your friends have already signed up plus we will release the route GPX files and detailed route instructions here. During the ride we will use this group for communication and also its the place you can share photos post ride.
